The laboratory was established in 2021 as part of the implementation of the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated April 9, 2010 No. 220 on state support for scientific research conducted under the guidance of leading scientists in Russian educational institutions of higher education, scientific institutions and state research centers of the Russian Federation (Agreement No. 075-15-2021-583 dated 06/03/2021).

The main tasks of the laboratory:

• Carrying out and analysis of ground and satellite measurements of ozone, ozone-depleting substances, and the state of the atmosphere.
• Assessment the past and project future behavior of the ozone layer using state-of-the-art chemistry-climate models that consider various forcing, including the variability of greenhouse gases and ODS.
• Development of a new atmosphere-ionosphere-magnetosphere model and its application to study the influence of space weather on the variability of the ozone layer.
• Analysis of medium-term ozone layer variability due to disturbances in atmospheric dynamics and space weather.
